Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born in Frankfurt, Germany on 28 August, 1749. Through his works, Goethe has left a trace in the German Literature. He is recognized as having written three of the most influential novels in European Literature. Through his writings and novels, he created the “Bildungsroman”, which was adopted marvelously by James Joyce.

On His side, Matthew Arnold called Goethe the liberator and the healer who understood the suffering of the human race, while Ralph Waldo Emerson selected him alongside Plato, Montaigne, Shakespear in his work entitled Representative Men.

His novel Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship was considered by Arthur Schopenhauer as one of the four greatest novel ever written alongside Tristram Shandy, La Nouvelle Héloïse, and Don Quixote.
