1. How does your service work?
Our service operates over a satellite, or a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) connection. Once your ship is in international waters, the Cellular At Sea network turns on and you will automatically connect to it. Please note that cruise ship roaming rates will apply. Our service will be available while sailing in international waters. Once your ship approaches land again, our service is turned off and the mobile device will pick up local service. If you are able to pick up local service in the port areas, you may be charged a different rate by your carrier than the Cruise Ship Roaming rate. Contact your carrier for pricing and details.
2. How do I connect my mobile device to the network on board my ship?
Compatible roaming enabled devices with a carrier that has a roaming agreement with Cellular At Sea will automatically connect to the network for normal operating cellular service when the network turns on, with no additional effort from the mobile user. Dependent on the mobile device, you will know that you are on the network when you see one of the following networks displayed on your mobile device: “cellularatsea”, “wmsatsea”, “NOR-18” or “901-18”. If you are at sea and do not have network connectivity, 1) ensure roaming is enabled on your mobile from the network settings on your mobile device, 2)power cycle your mobile device, 3) perform a manual search for the Cellular At Sea network from the network settings on your mobile device, or 4) contact your service provider to confirm you have international roaming enabled on you service plan and mobile.
3. How do I dial out?
Simply dial “1” plus the area code and number to call anywhere in North America.
Dial “+” along with the country code and number to call non-US destinations. Dialing the + differs per phone model (hold 0 key or find symbol key on smartphones).
*Verizon Wireless/Sprint users dial “011” country code and number to non-US destinations.
4. How much will it cost to use my cellular mobile device onboard a ship?
Rates are set and determined solely by your cell phone carrier- Cellular At Sea has no involvement in the retail rates your carrier charges for cruise ship roaming or the billing process. For precise rates you will pay onboard, please contact your carrier directly to confirm their Cruise Ship Roaming Rates for voice calls, texting, and/or data.
5. How will my cell phone carrier bill for services used onboard a cruise ship?
All billing is handled by your cell phone carrier and you will be billed for any charges incurred while onboard a ship on your next monthly cell phone bill directly from your carrier. There are no additional charges or billing from Cellular At Sea or the cruise lines.
6. If my mobile device is left on and I do not use it, will I be charged?
In some cases, a mobile device that is left on, but not used, may incur charges. If a voice call is received but not answered, and the caller leaves a voicemail, you may receive a charge for a voice call. If a text message comes through and the mobile device is left on, you may be charged for a received text message. Please note that smartphones (iOS, Android and other wireless devices) are constantly looking for data connections to perform updates and other synchronization steps. Therefore, it is highly possible that if you leave your wireless device on, you will incur data charges. Please contact your carrier for more information on data charges.
7. I did not use my mobile device onboard a cruise ship and I received charges, how do I dispute charges or get a refund?
Any questions or issues regarding billing must be handled solely through your carrier. Cellular At Sea has no involvement at all with retail charges applied to the monthly bill by the cell phone provider. The cell phone carrier is the only entity with the ability to make any necessary adjustments to a customer’s bill.
8. Are there any cruise ship packages for voice minutes or data available to use this service?
Cellular At Sea does not offer any cruise ship packages for guests; however, some wireless carriers do offer cruise ship packages. Please check with your cellular carrier.
AT&T customers can get cruise ship world packages. Please contact AT&T for more information.
Sprint customers can get cruise ship packages as well. Please contact Sprint for more information.

9. Will my unlimited rate plan apply to your service?
Please contact your carrier to confirm this and your specific pricing details.
10. If I buy a prepaid cellphone, can I use it onboard the cruise ship?
Cellular At Sea may support US and International prepaid cell phones with our service. Please confirm with your carrier.
11. What data speeds are supported onboard? Does 3G work?
At this time, the majority of the ships with the Cellular At Sea network carry cellular data traffic at 3G speeds. On a select few ships, we do support 4G LTE speeds for AT&T customers; 4G LTE availability will continue to increase over time. We are continually evaluating new technologies and services to provide consumers with the fastest most reliable services.
12. Do you offer internet access?
Provided that Cellular At Sea has a roaming agreement with your cellular service provider for cellular data service, you will be able to use our network to access cellular data services (e.g., internet access, email and web browsing) with your data-capable device. Data roaming rates also apply. Please check with your carrier to determine the rates you will be charged.
13. How do I confirm if I can use my mobile device on a specific cruise ship?
Please confirm with your carrier their availability and rates onboard specific cruise lines.
